Australian performance artist Lucas Davidson regularly gets buried under 250 pounds of gravel in front of art gallery crowds — all in the name of art. It’s part of an ongoing exhibition called “Black Cell.” Davidson usually spends a full hour trapped under the gravel. Quoted in the Daily Beast, Lucas admits:

“It was quite painful. The weight of the gravel on my arms made me lose circulation in my hands, and when I moved even slightly, the gravel shifted and locked me down.”
