Mental Floss has shared some very interesting studies about ants that reveal the fact that many so-called “worker” ants “don’t do their fair share of work—or any work at all.” According to the article, ant researchers at the University of Arizona discovered that up to 25% of ants in any particular hive are inactive. The scientists speculate that these non-working ants “might just be selfish, shirking their assigned duties so they can conserve energy and minimize their exposure to danger.”

Hmmmm. So maybe the best way to get rid of those ants in your kitchen is not to poison them, but put them to work. Maybe folding laundry or cleaning out the garage. You never know…
