While some opponents of marriage equality vowed to move to Canada after the U.S. Supreme Court’s recent ruling, that wouldn’t work out so well. Because the fact is that same sex marriage has been legal in Canada since 2005.
Instead, pack your bags for Russia.
Putin’s Russia is a bastion of “traditional values.” According to UK publication Metro, Russia’s version of the Republican party has just issued a new “straight pride” flag which shows a traditional family (man, woman, three kids) on a background of patriotic blue. Oh yeah, all the people on the flag are white.
The flag features a Russian hashtag which translates to ‘A Real Family’.
Andrei Lisovenko, deputy head of the United Russia branch in Moscow, told newspaper Izvestia:
“This is our response to same-sex marriage, to this mockery of the concept of the family. We have to warn against gay-fever at home and support traditional values in our country.”
If Russia is too cold for you, check out the map below for some other options. Many Middle Eastern countries like Syria are also against marriage equality.
